Where families save, and where they should not
Four people change the arithmetic considerably — mostly in your favour.

They are what we see in the market, not a quote and not an official tariff. Your quote will be exact and itemised. International flights are not included.
Where families save
- Child rates. Most camps discount children sharing with parents, often substantially, typically up to eleven or twelve.
- Family tents and units. One unit for four is usually cheaper than two doubles.
- The vehicle splits four ways. Guide and vehicle are costed per vehicle, so a family of four pays much less each than a couple.
- Exclusive use. Above about six people, taking a whole house is often cheaper per person than booking a camp.
- Park fees. Children’s rates are lower at most parks and conservancies.
The upgrade worth paying for
A private vehicle. With children it is not a luxury, it is what makes the week work: you go back when someone has had enough, you stop when someone needs the loo, and nobody else is quietly furious about the noise.
It also removes most camps’ minimum-age restrictions. If you cut one thing from the budget, do not cut this.
Where not to economise
- Insurance with medical evacuation cover, for every family member
- The internal flight instead of a five-hour drive with young children
- A camp that genuinely takes your children’s ages, rather than one you hope will
